Results of Philanthropist 2007 National Contest The Contest was held by the Dytyachy Svit All-Ukrainian Charitable Fund, the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund, the Philanthropy Centre, and the Ukrainian Grantmakers Forum. The organizers of the Contest announced the winners on December 13 in the conference hall of Inter-Media information agency.
The representatives of the organizing committee believe that the positive practice of social responsibility will be supported by our society. Thereby, the Philanthropist of the Year National Contest was launched. The purpose of the Contest is to honour and openly recognize Ukrainian businessmen for their charitable activity focused on solving the social problems of today, and to promote charity in Ukraine. The organizing committee addressed the President of Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers with the proposal to bring the Philanthropist Day into being. It is to be celebrated before the traditional Ukrainian holiday St Mykolay’s Day.
Applications were submitted from April 24 to November 15, 2007. Over 80 philanthropists from all 25 Ukrainian regions applied for the Contest. Among them were 6 transnational corporations, 16 domestic companies, 4 banks and financial institutions, 35 charitable funds and 19 individual persons. Winners from each region and 5 most active nationwide philanthropists were announced during the Contest. The winners on the national level were AVON COSMETICS UKRAINE Subsidiary (of the international corporation Avon Products, Inc.) (nomination Philanthropist of the Year – Transnational Corporation), FOXTROT Group of Companies (nomination Philanthropist of the Year – national company), POLTAVA-VZAYEMOPOMICH Credit Union (nomination Philanthropist of the Year – Bank or Financial Institution), FUND OF OLEKSANDR FELDMAN International Charitable Foundation (nomination Philanthropist of the Year – Charitable Fund), and Mr. Omelyan Antonovych (nomination Philanthropist of the Year – Individual Person).
The awarding ceremony took place on December 13 at the National Television Company of Ukraine with the participation of the President’s wife, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko, the representatives of the UNO and the Council of Europe in Ukraine.
During the press conference the Organizers expressed their heartfelt thanks to the general partner – NADRA BANK, major sponsor – Sanofi-Aventis Group company, general information partner – First National Television Channel, major information partner – Inter-Media information agency, major internet partner – the Public Space portal and information partners – META.UA portal, Interfax-Ukraine information agency and DNA information analytical magazine.
Such competitions have become traditional in modern Europe and worldwide.
For example, in 2006 the SUAL in Russia, the BRD Bank (Societe General Group) in Romania and CEZ Energy Holding in Czech Republic were named Philanthropists of the Year. The Ukrainian Contest is the next step in keeping a good tradition of the events. It is a perfect chance to share experience of successful projects and compare the charity development within Ukraine and in other countries.
